3 Surprisingly Easy Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day for Singles

So, you’re single for Valentine’s Day. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Some of you may be recently single, while others have been single for many Valentine’s days. Still, it’s not hard to get annoyed and bitter with all the constant lovey-dovey shit being shoved in your face.

Valentine’s Day Is the Day for Love

Often times, we look at Valentine’s Day as the day of love, smooches, and overpriced chocolates. Bitter dudes like to bitch about how it’s a day for businesses to make money for businesses. Bitter women like to say how they don’t want a day for guys to give them flowers because its expected of them.

While both of these foundations have their validity, you’re just gonna have to suck it the fuck up, buttercup. Valentine’s Day is here to stay and not going anywhere. So, instead of constant bitching about the holiday, find a new way to embrace it.

The Day of Love doesn’t have to be romantic. Valentine’s Day is a great day to spend with anyone you love, be it romantic or platonic.

If you’re a single father down in the dumps, why not take your daughter out on a date? Spend the day with your mother, whose husband passed away. You can always take the opportunity to shine some love in others’ direction, and the day might be bearable.

Valentine’s Day is not the day to think about yourself, it’s about expression love and affection for others.

Alternative V-Day Activities

Now, if hanging out with someone else isn’t an option, or you’re looking for a real good time, I’ve got a couple of suggestions for you.

1. Anti-Valentine’s Day

Anti-Valentine’s Day parties are a big thing at bars and clubs. The alcohol world realizes there is an untapped market of depressed single people that don’t have anyone to spend it with.  What better way to treat your depression than with a bunch of alcoholic drinks? I’m just kidding, we all know that alcohol isn’t the best way to deal with our problems.

But Anti-Valentine’s parties are fun. You’ll meet a bunch of people that feel similar to the way you do. You’ve got drinks, comradery, and music that repels all things mushy and sappy. This is an excellent way to spend the day. Check the Facebook Local app for Anti-Valentine’s Day parties in your area. No parties in your area? Why don’t you host one at your place?

2. Trade in Chocolates for Concerts

A great way to spend V-day as a single person is to see what concerts are going on in your area. Valentine’s Day is one of those days that bands tend to perform on, unlike some of the major holidays like Christmas or Easter.

Concerts are an excellent way to forget about your problems. And I’m not talking about concerts where you’re awkwardly standing in the back. I’m an avid concert-goer and I can tell you there is a huge difference between standing in the back and being up in the front pack in tight like a can of sardines.

The hype at a concert is enough to make you wanna get hyped as well. There’s something about the ambiance of a concert that will make you forget about your singleness or any issues. Music is a healer. And don’t worry if you don’t know the artist, you might even find a new one you like!

3. Love Yourself on Valentine’s Day

The absolute best way to spend V-day as a single person is doing the one thing that so many of us (singles and taken alike) forget to do, and that’s self-care, or self-love. Self-care is a term that’s been thrown around in social media a lot, but the message behind it rings true.

No matter what activity you choose, sometimes the day still really gets ahold of you. Some of you have been single for years, others might be recuperating from a recent breakup. No matter what the reason why V-day might be a tough day for you, my best advice to you is just take the day for you.

Maybe you have to work, but if you’ve got the time, romance yourself. Take yourself out to a fancy restaurant and gorge yourself on delicious food. Take a spa day and get a massage or your nails done. Go see a movie. Go to a theme park.

Whatever you do, just do it FOR YOU.

I hope you’ve enjoyed 3 Ways to spend Valentines’ for the single and bitter (nah, I’m just kidding), and really think about how to spend your day of love, even if it’s loving on yourself.
